First blog

I graduated last May with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. I returned to the same college where I graduated to obtain my teaching certification for World Language Education. I want to become a Spanish teacher. I also want to obtain certification in ESL and possible Spanish interpretation. I should be finished with it by spring of next year. I feel that I am called to teach. I love sharing knowledge with others and discuss things that are intellectually stimulating. I love education and I will learn everything that I can about teaching methods, research, and classroom management. At the college I'm attending, they are not any courses in the Education department on classroom management. One of the professors from the department advised us to read up everything we can on classroom management, so, I will do that. I have become a member of an organization of foreign language teachers called the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). It's an awesome organization and I have received their summer 2009 Foreign Language Annals, a research journal published by the ACTFL. It has some really neat research. I read some of it, but from what I've read, it got me hooked. I've always had a love for languages since high school. I'm not quite fluent in Spanish, but I can carry on some conversations with native and non-native speakers. I also need to improve my listening comprehension as well. I can understand about 50-60% of what is being said in Spanish, but I want to be able to comprehend 100% and I will obtain that goal one day. That's all I'm going to write for now, the next time, I will be writing about my upcoming classes I will take in the fall, my PRAXIS exams, things that I learn from a sociolinguistics class I took this spring term, etc. This blog will be about foreign languages, education, linguistics, sociolinguistics, my personal educational goals, and things that I read from the Foreign Language Annals.
